What is Mold Removal / Mold Remediation?

Mold removal & mold remediation is the process of removal and/or cleanup of mold from an indoor environment.

Mold growth can be removed from hard surfaces with soap and water, antimicrobial, biocides, or disinfectants. In a residential setting, hard surfaces may include non-porous tile, countertops, cabinets, or cement. Often times, however, mold spores grow and thrive on porous or semi-porous material (drywall, wood framing, etc.). Because of this, a Certified Mold Remediation Contractor should contain, remove and replace the affected material.

Applications of antimicrobial, encapsulation, negative air by themselves DO NOT represent a complete remediation.

How to Remove Mold:

The ONLY way to properly remediate mold is to physically remove it.

The first step in solving an indoor mold problem is stopping the source of moisture. If we eliminate the moisture we stop the mold from growing. Much like your grass in your front yard in the winter time – mold will go into a dormant state once any possible moisture sources have been removed.

Next step in the remediation process is to physically remove the mold growth. A conservative strategy is to discard any building materials saturated by the water intrusion or having visible mold growth.
